Haringey Time Credits network has been shortlisted for the Haringey Community Impact Awards 2018 in the Improving the health and wellbeing of Haringey residents 2018 category.
The Community Impact Awards are given annually to grassroots community groups, voluntary organisations and schools that have combined effective community service with innovative and sustainable practices to improve the lives of Haringey residents.
Haringey Time Credits engages local residents and gets them involved with local organisations through volunteering. The network helps people to build their confidence, learn new skills, grow social connections, resilience, and improve mental and physical health and wellbeing. Further, by spending Time Credits, individuals are able to try new activities that they couldn’t otherwise afford, tackling key aspects of inequality and increasing quality of life. Through doing this Haringey Time Credits has been able to target unmet needs in the community engaging local communities on two key priorities; Substance Use & Recovery and Mental Health & Prevention.
In 2017, Haringey Time Credits engaged with 63 organisations, where over 1000 Haringey residents gave their time and earned a total of 11265 Haringey Time Credits. Members earned Time Credits taking part in activities such as: gardening, peer support, facilitating workshops, cooking, and cleaning, leading walking groups or other wellbeing activities. Members then used these Time Credits to access 127 venues in London, 29 of which are based in Haringey.
Time Credits have impacted Haringey residents in many ways and show how empowering a community can have a massive impact on individual’s health and wellbeing.
